Course Content:
Throughout the course, students will engage with the following printmaking techniques:
- Linoprint: Discover the versatility of linoleum as a medium for printmaking, mastering carving techniques to create intricate designs.
- Monotype / Geliplate: Explore the spontaneous and expressive possibilities of monotype printing using gel plates, producing one-of-a-kind prints with captivating textures and layers.
- Collagraph: Learn to construct collagraph plates using various materials, developing tactile surfaces for printing richly textured compositions.
- Dry Point Etching: Delve into the intaglio process of dry point etching, using sharp tools to incise directly onto the printing plate, resulting in fine, detailed prints.
Materials:
Print blocks and basic paper will be provided for each lesson, with the option to purchase handmade paper or bring your own. Inks, turps, tools, and rollers will be available for use during the sessions. Additionally, tea and coffee will be provided to fuel creativity and refreshment.

About Janice Mendelowitz:
Janice Mendelowitz is a fine artist, silversmith and arts educator. After graduating from University of Witwatersrand (BA Fine Art Hons – Printmaking) she worked in the advertising, design, and manufacturing fields as well as making and teaching art.
She specialises in colour reduction woodblock, monotype and linotypes and often uses other techniques in combination with them.
She has exhibited in various group shows and her work is in private collections locally and internationally.
She currently has a studio workshop in Port Elizabeth where she works and teaches printmaking and silversmithing.
